New leaves this week

A monstera unfurled its newest leaf on Tuesday morning, the calathea prayed again at dusk, and the string of pearls finally decided to grow.

Tuesday: the monstera's fourth leaf this year. Wednesday: the calathea lifted itself toward the window between five and six.

What grew this week

• The Monstera deliciosa put out a leaf with its first real fenestration, those characteristic splits that say the plant is settled enough to spare the energy. Often times, this require giving it the right kind of llight it. needs to see the split in the leaves (and holes like those you see in cheese)
• The Calathea orbifolia resumed its evening prayer, folding its leaves upward at dusk. This is a sign that it is not stressed.
• The String of pearls, after months of nothing, pushed out three new strands.

It is a waiting game watching and waiting for its growth. On the surface it is hard to see that the plant is working, but you can check when repotting to find that it is growing new roots.
